Crosswords you read, then solve
Most online crosswords ask you to guess from a short hint. These are different. Each puzzle comes from one Wikipedia article: the clues are sentences from the article with a word blanked out, and the answers are terms the article itself links to. Reading the article, or just skimming it, is part of solving the puzzle, so a crossword on volcanoes or the solar system doubles as a short reading task for the classroom or at home.
How it works
- Pick a topic. Each topic page shows this week’s puzzle. A new one appears every Monday.
- Solve it on screen or print it. Click a square and type, or print a clean copy for students. Tick Show answers to get the answer key.
- Make your own. The crossword maker turns any list of words and clues, such as this week’s spelling words, into a printable puzzle. It runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Every page names the Wikipedia article it uses, the exact revision and the licence, so you can check the source of any clue.
